What's an osteopath?

Osteopaths are registered Allied Health Professionals with the same scope as physiotherapists and chiropractors. They provide comprehensive health history discussion, physical assessment, manual therapy, rehab strategies and injury management education.

They are regulated by AHPRA and covered by most major private healthcare funds. Medicare rebates are available for GP approved patients on Allied Health/Chronic Disease management plans.

What is osteopathy?

Simply put, osteopathy is a gentle, hands-on, holistic approach that engages the indwelling therapeutic forces inherent in our bodies. Our bodies have developed over millions of years of evolution in relationship with the natural world, and it is this biological intelligence that orients, regulates and heals. The art and science of osteopathy is in the therapeutic alignment with this intelligence.

Fluid Tides Osteopathy is an integrative osteopathic practice that endeavours to find the meeting point between the traditional osteopathic framework, current research and evidence based practice and an essential human to human connection.

What can osteopathy help with?

Osteopaths can assist people of all ages with acute injuries and chronic conditions. Common reasons people come to see osteopaths include:

  • Headaches

  • Jaw/TMJ pain

  • Chronic pain

  • Postural strains

  • Sports injuries

  • Back and neck pain

  • Joint pain

  • Women's Health

  • Pelvic and hip pain

  • Infant and children's health and development

  • Pregnancy and postpartum support

  • Aging/elder care

what does a session look like?

Generally, a session will involve an initial assessment, if it's your first consultation, or a check in with your progress, followed by gentle massage and mobilisation, with the later half of the treatment incorporating a slower, hands on listening approach aimed at facilitating the bodies own innate rebalancing and restorative intelligence. This can often create a state of deep rest, where deep layers of fatigue and hard to access chronic tensions of the body can finally surface and find resolution, this process can continue to unfold some days after.

Unlike many other allied health services, all of my consultations are allocated an hour, so that we are not rushed and have adequate time to enter a place of genuine rest. This appointment length also affords enough time to answer any questions that may arise and consider the broader picture of your health, outside of just the area of physical pain.
